The influential TED prize grants its recipient one wish to change the world. When Architecture for Humanity won this prize in 2006, their wish was to create "opportunities for architects to help communities in crises" and the product of this is the Open Architecture Network. This outstanding website provides a platform for designers to communicate and share ideas. From architecture for emergency conditions, to innovative and sustainable design, The Open Architecture Network encourages ideas to improve living conditions.
On the website you can explore over 1800 designs, and share your own (and your intellectual property is protected through a Creative Commons licensing system ) . They are currently building a library of high quality resources about better building materials and techniques that people around the world can access and use in their own construction projects. They also have a comprehensive list of links to useful websites related to green building, sustainability and energy efficient design.
Their goal, in their words, is:
"Far from replacing the traditional architect, the goal of the network is to allow designers to work together in a whole new way, a way that enables 5 billion potential clients to access their skills and expertise. The network has a simple mission: to generate not one idea but the hundreds of thousands of design ideas needed to improve living conditions for all."
